What is your job role?

Video Production Support Officer, Learning Technology, University of Nottingham Libraries

In my eyes: helping people create and make sense of digital media.

What 3 words describe you?

Creative, Technical, Amiable

Tell us something ‘unusual’ about yourself

I’ve had artistic residencies at London International Festival of Theatre, Man and Eve Gallery, and Galleri Vals.

What excites you about learning technology?

I’m excited by the enormous potential for improving teaching delivery, student experience, and student / staff skills. Year on year more skills are demanded of new hires, so in order for UoN graduates to be competitive applicants for these roles they need to be exposed to experiences that will develop their creativity and technical skills. I’m excited about embedding digital media skills into the curriculum.

Do you have any top tips for our users?

Yes, experiment with digital media. The investment in time and effort will lead to better teaching, improved work readiness for students, and time saving for you in the long run.

What is crucial for learning technology at the University of  Nottingham?

Aside from maintaining some critical systems, the most important job is to help the University provide an excellent educational experience to students, in whatever form that takes, be it through Moodle, digital media, Office 365 and Teams, virtualisation, or something else.

What have you learned recently?

That any time can be a networking opportunity, so get in touch if you’d like to chat about incorporating digital media into the curriculum.

In terms of something a bit more interesting, I’ve recently learned that postgraduate students at The University are studying the effects of space travel on the human body. They are working with different types of bacteria that can survive harsh conditions e.g. beneath the Arctic, in volcanoes, and beneath the surface of the earth. The goal is to find ways to manufacture therapeutics and nutrients on-demand as we may not be able to take everything we need on a mission to Mars!
