Legal aspects of using Pinterest and other image sharing websites in teaching and learning

Deborah Ferns added an interesting post to the JISC blog recently about using image sharing websites such as Pinterest in teaching and learning – and in particular, tips for legal compliance in using image sharing websites.
She reminds us that we should only post images we create ourselves or have the permission of the copyright owner to post. Other suitable images are those with creative commons licences (these vary, so check exactly what is permitted), We are then granting licences to the website or other users to use and even re-use our images that we post. There may also be privacy concerns if posting images of people. Check the blog post for more on these and other aspects of legal use of image-sharing websites.
Our own Xpert attribution service can be used to find images with creative commons licences for re-use.
