Open Education Week Update

February 27th, 2012 at 09:02

The date and time of the webinar we are running as part of Open Education week has now been set. It will be on Wednesday 7th March at 3pm GMT.

The title is:  Open Nottingham – tools that help you find, create and re-use Open Educational Resources (OER).

The webinar will provide an overview of three tools that support discovery, creation and re-use of OER. The tools are:

 1. The Xpert Search engine: www.nottingham.ac.uk/xpert

Xpert helps people to find OER. It provides access to over 260,000 open resources making it one of the largest collections of OER in the world.

Presenter: Steve Stapleton

 2. The Xpert Attribution tool: www.nottingham.ac.uk/xpert/attribution

The Xpert Attribution tool helps users to find creative commons or public domain media and automatically incorporate licence information into the resource. Routinely embedding open licences simplifies OER development, removes barriers to repurposing and publishing OER, and substantially increases the usability and accessibility of course materials.

3. Xerte On-line Toolkits: www.nottingham.ac.uk/xerte

Xerte is a server-based suite of tools for content authors. E-learning materials can be authored quickly and easily using browser-based tools, with no programming required. Xerte Online Toolkits is aimed at non-technical content authors, who will assemble content using simple wizards. Xerte also provides a quick and easy way of publishing content openly to the web. It allows users to specify which creative commons licence they want to release the content under, and gives the option for users to add the content into RSS feeds, including one that surfaces the resource in Xpert.
