Webinar: New paradigms for assessment within image intensive disciplines: examples from Histology

August 2nd, 2011 at 09:08

TRANSFORM ASSESSMENTIf you’re interested in Assessment you may be glad to hear about this free webinar on Wednesday, 3 August 2011 “New paradigms for assessment within image intensive disciplines: examples from Histology”, with presenter: Professor Geoff Meyer (University of Western Australia). It’s part of a series on Rethinking assessment in a participatory digital world – Assessment 2.0.
This presentation will compare traditional assessments in Histology (the microscopic study of cells, tissues and organs) with the more innovative assessment that can now be coupled with online learning strategies and up-to-date learning platforms.

Histology is a course delivered to Medical, Dental, and various other cohorts of Health and Biological Science students in universities/colleges worldwide. It is an image-intensive discipline where most learning is completed examining images of histological sections of body cells, tissues and organs in addition to using a microscope to examine these histological sections. Increasing numbers of enrolments in histology courses and limited access to collections of histological sections and microscopes, has necessitated many learning objectives to be met by presenting online with concomitant creation of new methods of assessing students.

Professor Geoff Meyer is an Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) Teaching Fellow 2009 and developer of the well known Meyer’s Histology online resources.

Audience members are encouraged to participate and contribute.
