e-Learning Community event (12 Jan 2011)

January 7th, 2011 at 11:01

Happy New Year!

The first e-learning community event for 2011 will be on Weds 12th Jan from 12:30-2:00 in A48 Clive Granger Building. The topic for this session will be on creating and reusing open learning resources. In implementing the Open Nottingham project, the University has strategically embraced the Open Resource agenda. With benefits such as efficiency savings, promotional opportunities and enhancing the student experience, Open Nottingham is designed to foster increased use, reuse and publication of open educational resources (OER) by staff and students across the university.

The e-learning seminar on the 12th Jan will provide information on the Open Nottingham project. It will be specifically looking at tools and services that help staff to find and incorporate open resources in their own teaching and learning materials – timed to provide information that might be useful when re-working modules for the start of the new term.

Steve Stapleton (Open Learning Support Officer)

  • Overview of Open Nottingham
  • Overview of the OER module available to staff and students (and which is also an optional module on the PGCHE)
  • Case studies of publication and re-use of OER at Nottingham

Pat Lockley (Learning Support Development Officer)

  • Update on the Xpert repository (which now indexes over 150,000 learning resources)
  • Overview of the Xpert Media Search and Attribution Service, the latest addition to the Open Nottingham suite of tools. Designed to allow people to search for public domain and creative commons licensed materials and then attribute them, the tool removes problems over copyright from content creation.
